An introduction to the craft of making a stained glass panel.
The decorative leadlight or stained glass window you make will be approx 300 mm x 300 mm.
You will start by drawing up a full size working drawing called a cut line. Choose from a selection of our standard patterns or come with your own design ideas.
You will learn how to cut glass with full instructions and support. Giving you an understanding of types of glass and different cutting techniques required for your project.
Once the panel has been cut fully, (if glass painting if required may be added and kiln fired over night), I will then teach the art of leading the panel together and soldering to complete the finished panel.
With the final window complete, the process of weather proofing and adding additional strength begins with the use of lead light cement.
This process can be messy so old clothes are advised to be worn. The window will be left to dry and cleaned and polish ready for collection from the studio a couple of days after the workshop, at a time suitable for you.
This is optional as some people have wanted the window un cemented and can be taken away on the day.
Enjoy the rewarding craft and make some art glass you will cherish for years to come.
All workshops will run from 10.00 to 16.30 but fexible to ensure you complete your project
Please wear older clothes and bring a pack lunch.
A note to say this is a standing activity and all tools and materials are provided.
If you are pregnant or nursing your baby you will be unable to work with lead.
Design and draw up your design and select colours and glass textures
Cut the glass and learn a variation of ways to successfully achievet he shapes you need for your window.
Lead and solder the window to complete your window.
